Well, it still needs a driver; it's just that if the device is class-compliant, then you can be assured that the driver is built into the Linux kernel and you don't have to worry about it.

Did you manage to get the lv2 to work?

I got it to build and load in the DAW, but the UI doesn't work. I was thinking of maybe configuring an Ardour session on my Linux machine, and then trying to load it on the Mac to see if it would at least make some noise, but I haven't tried it yet.

Re: Hardware Midi Keyboard on Disco Dingo/ Ardour 5.12.0

When Ardour is not in playback-mode, i receive sounds from the different plugins via my external keyboard. When Ardour is in playback-mode, i get no sound from the plugins over my keyboard. I checked the right midi-channel on the keyboard and again and again qjacktl. Thanks a lot for support. :-) F...

Re: Let's Cruise (surf)

When I read "(surf)", I was wondering if it would have a spring reverb. It sounds like there is no spring reverb, but that's fine.

Some of the solo parts are using an exotic scale. Is that the phrygian mode, or something else? Whatever it is, I like the sound of it!

Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

(2) it isn't accessible to them Could you elaborate on what you mean by '2'? I would guess that it refers to a fairly large demographic that will not use an operating system that doesn't come installed on hardware they buy at a store. The process of downloading the installation software, putting it...

Re: What kind of musician am I?

I do not know much theory. At all. Ha! You know more than you realize, but I get your point. Music theory only really serves as a means of communication and reasoning about music, and maybe as a foundation upon which musical ideas can be built. What really matters is that a musician can use things ...

Re: What kind of musician am I?

Thanks everybody, great ideas all around. Generally I think the idea is to stop thinking so hard about everything and just create stuff. I don't give myself enough credit for how much music theory I understand and how much creative ability I already have, and so I keep grasping for new things to fil...

Re: Looking for a good quality Audio interface... for cheap...

I'm a little late to this conversation, but what precisely are you trying to do? How many inputs do you need? What do you need optical for? If you're trying to record a five-person band with multiple mics on the percussion set, then sure, get one of the bigger interfaces with 16 inputs and ADAT in c...

What kind of musician am I?

I'm having what you might call a musician's existential crisis. One day I think my goal is to arrange virtual orchestral, another day I want to make bedroom pop. Earlier this week I was listening to some Celtic folk music and thought "This stuff really speaks to me! The love of my life practice...

Book about programming DSP algorithms.

Can somebody recommend a good book on programming digital signal processing algorithms? After working on the Dragonfly Reverb plugins, I feel like a fraud that has fooled some of the masses into thinking that I know a thing or two about developing audio effects. The truth is that I just put a nice w...

Please clarify what you mean. Where I'm from, those syllables can mean several different things based on tone of voice: "that's funny", "no", "keep away!", etc.
